Pears

Pears are so much fun to paint, I keep going back to them. I'm not sure which I like to paint more pears or peppers?

My tomato's are are ripe in the garden so I will be canning tomato's at some point today. I am a very visual person, what ever is in my visual field at the moment is the most real thing for me. So what ever activity I start has a lot to do with what I paint that day. I bet I end up with some paintings of tomato's before the day is over. Now off to the post office to ship paintings that have sold.

Expressions in Teal, 1020

In the mid 20th century during and after WWII American artist explored a new freedom in art they also tried new techniques this was the begining of Abstract Expressionism.Abstract Expressionism is suppose to invoke an emotion in the viewer.Today my emotions are in teal.
Abstract Expressionism has no distinct image instead you are looking at how someone feels how it comes across as action, color, and movement. My paintings are always full of color and movement but with this series of abstract work I am concentrating on how I feel at this moment.Today I feel Teal.

Expressions

Mark Rothko’s style is called colorfield painting.
His works consist of strong formal elements, such as color, shape, balance, depth, composition, and scale. The things every good painter uses.

Because a canvas is a two-dimensional surface, painting should avoid any illusion of three-dimensional representation. Even so, Rothko refused to be considered solely in these terms, arguing, “It is a widely accepted notion among painters that it does not matter what one paints as long as it is well painted. This is the essence of academic painting…. However, there is no such thing as good painting about nothing”.

Rothko believed that while flat, two-dimensional forms destroyed illusion, they also revealed truth.

What is the truth that Rothko attempted to reveal?
The titles of his paintings offer few answers, as Rothko begins to abandon conventional titles in 1947. Some critics have suggested that Rothko’s works refer to Western American landscape.

However, Rothko declared that there was no “landscape” in his art. Instead, Rothko argued that his paintings are “fully visible” to the viewer. They do not refer to anything else.

In other words, what you see is what you get. Ideally, the viewer would stand in front of his paintings, focusing on large fields of color and abstract forms, and come to terms with the self and his or her own scale. Colorfield painters believe that art could encourage the physical sensation of time and being there with the work.

I have started a series of colorful expressionist works.

Today I painted in an intensely emotional manner. I emphasized not an objecst but subjective emotions that expressed my mood.

Frankfort Michigan

It was a warm sunny day today to bike the trails of Michigan. I had to stop in the park at Frankfort and enjoy the children playing in the big waves coming in off of Lake Michigan.

There is a lot to see in Frankfort, Michigan and they have a wonderful bike trail there. We visited the old coast gard center which is being converted to a new art center.
It is cherry season in Michigan right now. The season is late this year. I put some sweet Michigan cherries on the top of my cupcakes as I ate some nice fresh ones, always good to eat.

Crooked Tree Arts Center Paint Out

Sail Boats in the bay.

Crooked Tree Arts Center 461 East Mitchel Street, Petoskey Michigan.

The day was overcast and looked like rain would start at any time.

I liked the red sail.

I painted this lone sail boat.

The opening night at the gallery.

Two finished paintings are now on display at the gallery until Aug 30th.

This painting I started the day of the paintout but I got rained out just before I finished it. I went back to my room and finished it the next day.
