Painting Demo Cherries and Bee's and Tips for Painting a Commissioned work

I have been working full speed on my painting for ArtPrize 2012, but I still take time out for commissioned paintings.

I had painted and sold a painting"SWEET REWARDS" and had someone ask if I could paint something like it. Here is a high speed video of the commissioned painting I did "Sweet Rewards No.2"

Tips for Painting a commissioned Work:
1. Be flexible and communicate
2. Find out which pieces they like the most, and the least.
3. Require an advance, usually about 1/3 the total cost of the commission, the advance should be nonrefundable. If the other party backs out, they should understand that no refund will be given.
4.What is your deadline for the completed work?
5.Do you accept returns on commissions?
6. Be sure to understand what the client is looking for in colors.
7. Medium the painting will be painted in:Oil, Acrylic,Watercolor, Pastel, Mixed Medium
8. How the painting will be shipped and the cost of shipping and insurance

This sounds pretty simple but it can be very complicated to someone who has never done a commission or asked for one. Oh, yes when you discuss size make sure they understand landscape and photo. I had a large commission and stated the size and cost and made sure they understood the dimension of the work only to have them come back and and say, they meant the other way after it was painted. Best draw a picture with the dimensions shown.

Learn to be yourself

We will discover the nature of our particular genius when we stop trying to conform to our own or to other peoples' models, learn to be ourselves, and allow our natural channel to open." - Shakti Gawain (1948-), Author

Love what you do, I Do

"I think you are out of your mind if you keep taking jobs that you don’t like because you think it will look good on your resume. Isn’t that a little like saving up sex for your old age?” - Warren Buffett (1930-),

I love what I do and each day is a joy.

When the going gets tough

Museums are dealing with higher taxes and dried up federal funds, and the future doesn’t look much better. So says TrendsWatch 2012: Museums and the Pulse of the Future, a report just released by the American Association of Museums (AAM). It’s a good, important read for anyone interested in seeing how museums have been dealing with the economic downturn, and how they’ve been using technology to help buffer the financial strain. Some of the AAM’s recommendations are still fairly new to conventional non-profit wisdom—like using Kickstarter to fund collections. Overall, the report asserts that museums are  becoming more self-reliant in generating income. One thing is certain: museums are entering a new era.

But this may be a good thing making them more independent. I like that read more on Museums and how they are generating additional income.
