Day Lillies No.3

The bloom of the day lily is glorious, but gone in just a day. I plant the bulbs, dig my fingers deep into the soil to make sure they are secure in their bed of soil. I pull the weeds and feed them for this one day of glory. When the moment comes their flames of orange wave proudly on the tall thin stakes of green.I know it was the worth the effort for this moment.

North Carolina

I have been traveling and painting again. I love North Carolina. A state rich in history it was first attempted to be colonized by the Spanish and then later the British. North Carolina,as a plantation state had a long history of slavery.

Yesterday I traveled to Raleigh , the capital of the state and a city know for it lovely oaks. The park in the down town area boasts a large sculpture of an acorn. While I was in Raleigh I visited "Art Space. The building houses 28 working artist along with exhibitions and education class' in the arts taught by the residence artist.

The minute I walked into Art Space I thought of the Torpedo Factory Art Center in Alexandria Virginia that I toured last year. Art Space is much smaller having 28 working artist where the Torpedo Factory has 82 working artist the feel is similar. I spoke to some of the artist there and they said that, yes it had been modeled after the torpedo factory. If I were an artist in the area I would want to be in this space the artistic juice was flowing here.

If you visit Raleigh the Art Space is a must see and while you are there stop and see the gallery of watercolorists Nancy Meadow Taylor.

Jazz

The origin of the word Jazz did not refer to music but it was a slang term that started on the West coast referring to the way a baseball was pitched.

Sailing

It's not too late to get out and sail. If you don't have a boat think about being part of the crew on someones boat. Salt water or fresh, the peace of a sail will reward you.

Addition to life

Become addicted to exploring your life and becoming all that you can be is a goal of mine. Whatever calls you, explore it! Whatever challenges or excites you, pursue it and see where it takes you. This is waht Ido most often

I like to Plien Air paint and I do it often. It is one of my painting addictions. I have many.

Be Happy

Sunflowers No 4

"God," said Voltaire, "is a comedian playing to an audience too afraid to laugh." Obviously, some folks think all this seriousness is a byproduct of a great cosmic joke. And these little stretchy things--these canvases and the stuff we mark them up with--are truncated playgrounds of the human soul. In the end, it is we who can become the master jokers. "It is not necessary for the public to know whether I'm joking or whether I'm serious," said Salvador Dali, "just as it is not necessary for me to know it myself."

A Beach Painting

I have been working on a large oil for a client who wanted a beach painting. I started with a charcoal drawing just to get the shapes down. I didn't need much detail because it would all be painted over any way.

You can see where I decided early on that I wanted the shapes of the beach umbrellas to be different. and I took some turpintine and erased them.

After I had kind of an Idea as to where I was going with the images. I put in some vaule.

Here is just the beginning. I still have some things to work out before I add any color to the painting. I will post more tomorrow.
