Moo Moo Buckaroo

I begin the painting by drawing a rough image on the canvas. This will be painted over so detail is not important. I just want to figure out where I want the image. This is a large painting 30x40 so it will take a lot of paint to get it to completions.

After getting the drawing down I paint in the background. This may change later but I want to begin to establish the colors.

Now that I have gotten rid of that white background I can start to put in some of the dark areas in the cow.

Because this painting is so large I need to lay in some base color now.

Getting the base done takes a lot of paint and time even using large brushes.

Now I can really start working on the painting.

It's stating to come along, a few finishing touches and it will be done.

St Patrick's Day

Saint Patrick's Day is celebrated worldwide by Irish people and increasingly by non-Irish people (usually in Australia, North America, Ireland) as well. Celebrations are generally themed around all things Irish and, by association, the colour green. Both Christians and non-Christians celebrate the secular version of the holiday by wearing green or orange, eating Irish food and/or green foods, imbibing Irish drink (such as Guinness) and attending parades.

I decided to honor my Irish roots and paint green beer today. I started with a pencil sketch to work on the placement of the glasses.

I then did a more detail drawing decideing where the dark area would be and the high lights.

I chose a small 8x6 canvas and painted in the background to get a feel for the glass' of beer.


Green Beer finished cold and ready for St Patricks Day.

Now this isn't where I would have gone with this painting but I had request to change it. I think I will do one more small change to it. It is interesting to see how much different a color change can make a work look. This painting went from hot to cool.

I have been working on a large oil painting " Play the Music" 30x40x1 1/2. It's almost finish but now I am debating if I should add more color to the figures in the work.
